On 28th March, REG hosted a Women in Insurance Panel Event, which focused on addressing the challenges facing women working in the industry and what the sector can do to promote equal opportunities and action gender equality.
The event started with a talk from Marketing Manager, Zoƫ Parsons, discussing some of the challenges facing women in the market; including gender pay gaps, lack of representation, the gender seniority gap and attitudes towards women at work.
Following, Melanie Cotton, Associate at Elborne Mitchell LLP gave a fantastic introduction to gender bias and our own unconscious biases.
We would like to say a massive thank you to our panelists; Kate Payne, Partner at Elborne Mitchell LLP; Caitlin Jansen Van Ryssen, Associate at WTW; Kajal Pankhania, Manager at DA Strategy and Chair of MGAA Next Gen and Gemma Henderson, Business Director at IDEX Consulting Ltd, for then sharing their thoughts on how the insurance sector and us as individuals can address the barriers and start to action fairer representation and equal opportunities across the board, to create a motivated, empowered and positive workforce.

"I thought the event was a really good insight into all ages perspectives. In general, we have come such a long way (from an older person's point of view!), but still have a long way to go. I would attend again and recommend to others. It was well organised, staff were great, and a real diverse perspective in the room."

"I thought it was a really insightful event on an important topic that needs to be talked about more in the industry. The structure of the event, it being a panel session, enabled the panellists to speak more candidly about their experiences."

What a year. When the idea sprung to me to write a blog about my experience as a Marketing Intern over the last year, I thought it would be a perfect opportunity for self-reflection. To kind of close this chapter of my life. But to be honest, it's hard to know where to start...
